About Me
Artist Statement:
Oriented towards abstraction, I explore with my work the interconnectedness of distinctive shapes and vibrant colors. Connecting the colors and forms in ways that allow each to have a strong presence yet merge into its neighbor in unique ways. Immediacy is important to create impression that a painting was painted at one time. Translucency and fluidity allow colors and forms to blend together in some areas and have crisp edges in others. The crisp edges allow the eye to focus. Often using a sheer, fluid watercolor technique which allows the brightness of the canvas to come through. With time, I am drawn to calmer forms, ones with less motion and more stability The large fields of color give the works an expansive, peacefulness with lively colors conveying emotions and sensations
Education:
In 1970-1971, while attending Skidmore College, June Farnham participated in art classes including studio art. She graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. degree in 1973 and in 1975 with a M. Arch. degree. She practiced architecture for years. June Farnham has in the last decade renewed her interest in painting and studied techniques and composition on her own and in classes.
